Can’t Seem to Stick to the Plan? — 8 Reasons Why You Fail to Achieve Your Goals

Are you struggling to stick to the plan?

The plan you have to accomplish your goals and make your dreams come true.

Research shows 43% of people give up New Year Resolutions by February.

Fitness-related ones are usually abandoned by 3 months.

According to science, only 8% of us actually reach our goals.

Here’s 8 things to consider as to why you fail to stick to the plan and conquer your dreams and goals.

1. You don’t stick to a plan because you are not consistent

When you first get started on your goals and dreams I’m sure you feel motivated, determined, and full of willpower.

However, these emotions don’t last.

When they don’t last you begin to falter at being consistent with your goals.

You’ve been getting up early mornings for the past 3 weeks to work out.

Now you are tired and just want to go back to having lie-ins.

You’ve been dedicating your spare time and energy working on that side hustle now you’re feeling burnt out.

You decide to take a break only that break ends up being permanent.

When it comes to being consistent with your goals the only way to do it is to make sure your tasks are manageable.

Don’t work out every morning when you hate it.

Instead, do workouts you enjoy, do them at a time most convenient to you, and don’t overdo it.

Workout 3–4 times a day instead of every day, or even 2–3.

Do what is most comfortable for you so you know you will stick to the plan.

Take this blog.

If I want to grow it I need to consistently upload articles.

I work a full-time job as well as having other responsibilities in my life.

However, I made a promise to myself that I would write a blog article once a week.

No MATTER WHAT.

How I manage is by being realistic.

I don’t commit to posting multiple articles every week.

If I did I wouldn’t manage it and eventually neglect my blog.

Do what is manageable in order to be consistent.

2. You don’t stick to the plan because your results are arbitrary

When it comes to your goals or making positive changes not having a clear result in mind can make it hard to stick to the plan.

For instance, say you want to save money.

What does that exactly mean?

It could mean saving a couple of pounds at the end of each week.

Same with wanting to become richer.

What exactly is rich to you?

Being able to afford a high-end luxurious lifestyle?

Spending money on all the finer things in life?

Being able to retire early?

Or, just being able to live a comfortable lifestyle?

If you are not clear on what your results are and they seem kind of arbitrary you’ll struggle to stick to the plan to make them happen.

Be clear on your desired outcomes.

You want to save more determine exactly how much.

Give actual figures such as wanting to save 10% of your income each month.

You want to become richer have an amount in mind that meets your standard of being rich.

Don’t have arbitrary desires.

3. You don’t stick to the plan because you don’t look at the positives

Achieving your goals takes hard work.

So, if after all that hard work you still don’t get the desired outcome you want it’s understandable why you decide to not stick to the plan and throw in the towel.

Say you decide to lose weight.

You end up losing a few pounds but not as much as you wanted.

While this may not be the outcome you have wanted think of the positives that have occurred during your weight loss journey.

You would have eaten healthier, exercised more, and adopted healthier habits and routines.

Don’t immediately go straight to the failure and give up.

Look at the positive of what has come out of trying to achieve your goal and what you have learned from it.

4. You don’t stick to the plan because you don’t track your progress

When you don’t track your progress or review it and you encounter hurdles, setbacks and failures it’s easy to decide to not stick to the plan and give up.

Whatever your goal is review and track just how far you have come, what you have accomplished, and what is working before you decide it’s not worth it.

For example, I have a goal of increasing the number of steps I take in a day.

How I know I’m on the right track is by using apps that monitor my steps for the day.

On the days I don’t achieve my steps I reflect on what happened on those days.
